"Perfect love casteth out all fear...."
Moroni 8:16
This scripture changed my life a few years ago.
The costant bombardment I am recieving from everywhere of fear and loss is so completely depressing. Especially for someone in our situation, that we are waiting for the "Ok" on the dream job. Is there no hope? The conversation at church is "is your job OK?" or "Have you enough food storage?" and I haven't recieved "Quick grab your children and run!" but the feeling is there. So I did a little digging to get some numbers for the current economic situation, in regards to unemployment.
Our country's unemployment sits at about 7.6%.
In 1992, our country's unemployment sat at 7.8%
In 1982, the unemployment was at 10.2% (respectively)
In the great depression, it sat at 25-30%, for years.
Objectively speaking, it sucks, but it's not the end. It has been worse and it will get better. I get really irritated when the government makes it sounds like it IS the great depression. Fear begets more fear. My biggest problem with this whole recession, is that I believe it was all brought on by GREED (me and Suze Orman). So we have to cinch up the belts, big deal. So we can't put our kids in private school, so we have to make homemade birthday presens and cards, so we have to find joy in each others company instead of entertainment (movies, etc.) so we buy 5 bananas instead of 10, please .....we are so blessed....we still get bananas.
Anyway, numbers and objective non-partisan perspective, I thought you would appreciate a little, I know I needed it! I am trying to replace my fear with faith, because I don't think I can have both at the same time. I am determined to chin-up and step forward.

I am glad to hear that someone is feeling the same way I do. It's scary but I am trying as well to replace my fear with faith. Thanks for the number crunching...it actually did make me feel better! You are right, it will get better. We just have to be patient.
BTW, LOVE the tea party picture. Moments like that melt the fear away. Love you guys!
Your testimony of faith could NOT have come at a better time. Thank you!!
thank you Thank You THANK YOU!!!! Those numbers put everything into perspective. That is what we all need a good dose of - PERSPECTIVE!!ETERNAL PERSPECTIVE!!
You're so right! I for one have turned off the news and I feel SOO much better! Here's to a LOVELY week and a fab 2009 with family and friends! :)
It was great to read this. From what I can tell, we are very much in the same boat as you and I am CONSTANTLY reminding myself to "have faith...be believing." It's so hard to do sometimes.
And I 100% agree that our financial crisis has more to do with greed than anything else. I think maybe what we need as a country is to completely fall on our faces financially so that we can admit our failures and start again the right way.
I am SO glad to have a peek into your life again!!!! Thank you for going public again! You are so darling...and you are wise beyond your years :). You ALWAYS have such a great perspective. I love reading your blog. It makes me happy.

Kristin, You have great faith and wonderful perspective. Doesn't make it easy every day though. You and Kent just keep putting your shoulder to the wheel and you are wonderful examples. I enjoyed so much the simplicity of life when I stayed with you. The love that abounds in your home is so evident and is strongly felt. This is what is important. I love you so much sister. Love, Mom
Kristin,
I don't feel like it is a recession regardless of the financial definition. My work life has never been so busy and fun. I like being my own boss and running my own company - no wasteful meetings at work but lots more good meetings at home. The quality of our lives is mostly determined by our attitude, and the opportunities we accept to help others.
Thank you so much for this! My mom often says that if the media would stop reporting for two weeks that we would probably get out of this mess! I agree with you that fear just brings more fear.
This was particularly insightful. Thanks again! :D
I think change is really on the way. I am hopeful about this. I work in the foreclosure business, so we have been bombarded. Sadly, our company is making money while others are laying people off. However, we got a memo from our client that they are stopping all foreclosures for the next 30 days in order to modify as many loans as possible and keep home owners in their homes. Although that may be less money for my business, it is good to see that the banks are going to try and help as many people out.
Good luck with the job situation! I KNOW it will all work out for you guys.
