Peter Pan....

Peter Pan has a myriad of meaning in my heart. It was my favorite movie going up (along with Mary Poppins, the Gnomemobile, and Seven Brides, but anyway.) Neverland is one of my favorite movies now. My friend who lost her child has turned for inspiration to the little imp of a child, Peter. So yesterday, when Bella could not calm down I did the only thing I know of that makes her calm, read to her from Peter Pan (by J.M. Barrie) while Harry played on the ground. There are so many tidbits in this book, can I just indulge myself and write some of my favorites so far:

"Mrs. Darling first heard of Peter when she was tidying up her children's minds. It is the nightly custom of every good mother after her children are asleep to rummage in their minds and put things straight for the next morning, repacking into their proper places the many articles that have wandered during the day."

"Indeed a million golden arrows were pointing out the island to the children, all directed by their friend the sun, who wanted them to be sure of their way before leaving them for the night."

"Years rolled on again, and Wendy had a daughter. This ought not to be written in ink but in a golden splash."

It sufficeth to say that the adventures of the book satisfy my kids curiosity and imagination. I however try not to cry at every page for the innocent insights into the center of motherhood and childhood. Double meanings everywhere and so beautifully written.

It is this feeling of reading to the kids by the tree to quiet their spirits (when they actually listen), the provides my profoundest sense of joy. I have a friend who described my children and all children "as the little lights on the planet." Isn't that the truth?

Love it! I can't say I've actually read the book. I'm really going to have to now. Great quotes.
