Sure...

The first time my husband said the word "Sure" it was in response to some mundane question like "Would you mind doing the kitchen?" or "Can I borrow a kidney?" And my initial, and now patented response is "What does 'sure' mean?"
Does sure mean "eh, I like my kidneys but hey you're my eternal companion so whatev!" Does sure mean I will do the dishes.....eventually and in my own way? Does sure mean in one minute, which is another ambigous frustration. Would that be one football minute, one basketball minute or one Gardner minute. The possiblities with such a vague vocabluary are endless! AND IRRITATING! I echo the sentiments of the MOODY BLUES... "SAY WHAT YOU MEAN."

Apparnently, this generic response is hereditary. Today I asked Harrison if he wanted to play the memory game. His response......"Sure." (enthusiastic, by nonetheless..."sure"). I paused. Then laughed....for heaven's sakes!

I love hearing your voice in all of your posts. When I spent some time in England when I was 15, my friend (my friend's father) lectured me on NOT using the word, "SURE." He said Americans use it so much and that it is actually RUDE. I had never thought of that before. I try to just say YES now.

Do I love Kristin Gardner?

Sure.

Heckaroni no! How about this...

YES!

Spencer says "sure" to me too. Super annoying, I agree.

I am guilty of saying SURE but I'm quite SURE that I learned the word SURE from RyGar - another Gardner man with a problem with SURE and MINUTES. Sheesh! :)

I don't know..."sure" sounds a whole lot better than the teenage "my bad"

So Kristin, I just read your comment on the book club blog and I saw that you now knit! Did you know that I love to knit too? Did you also realize that I will be joining you in the great state of Oregon in just about 2 weeks? Too bad we won't live closer, but we'll have to plan some road trips sometime. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!
